Christmas is an extremely important time of year for businesses, regardless of the industry or sector they work in. But competition is high anyway, let alone during the one time of the year where shopping numbers and demand spikes. With this in mind, it’s only natural for you to want to come up with a few ways in which you can stand out from the crowd at Christmas, and we’re on hand to help you to do just that. Here’s how to showcase your business this festive season, allowing you to stand out from your competitors.

Get creative on your socials & blogs

Social media is something that’s extremely powerful in the world of marketing, so why not use it to your advantage during the Christmas season? From posting a few short Christmas quizzes on Instagram Stories to posting the latest festive article you’ve written for your blog and asking customers to share it with their followers, social media is the perfect outlet to get creative, and what better time than Christmas?

Work with a local charity

Charities are always looking for volunteers, more so at Christmas than at any other time of year, like most organisations. What you can do, as a business, is offer your services to a local charity in need. While you don’t have to make a big thing of it or demand that the charity reports on your kindness, you can instead mention it, subtly, on your own website.

Write an article for your blog that showcases the charity work you have been doing, but just don’t do it at Christmas. Make sure you continue your charity work throughout the rest of the year, to show your customers that you can give back to the community, no matter the season.

Put out some hearty headlines

When it comes to online sales, the importance of exposure, leads and sales comes in the number of clicks you get. How can you do that? By writing some enticing headlines, whether it be for a landing page or a new article you’ve published. Your aim is to get people to click on your website, no matter where it sends them, and a good, hearty headline can help you to do just that. Here are a few tips for writing a great, engaging and exciting headline:

  • Use an active voice rather than a  passive one
  • Be short and concise
  • Make it make sense
  • Spark some curiosity
  • Use numbers
  • Give them a reason to read
  • Write headlines for the reader, not yourself, as the writer
  • Include power words, such as ‘guaranteed’, ‘instantly’, ‘free’ and ‘comprehensive’

Advertise some Christmas offers, deals & promotions

You’ll likely be in competition with other businesses in your area offering the same thing, more so at Christmas than at any other time of year. So how can you get more footfall into your shop, rather than someone else’s’? The answer is to entice your customers in, whether it be online or into your physical store.

There’s no better way to do that these days than to offer some competitive deals and offers. From ‘buy one get one free’ promotions to offering a certain percentage off when a customer spends a particular amount or more, there’s plenty you can do to get customers to choose you and your business over that of your competitor.

Even offering a free gift by way of a promotion can be extremely effective. In addition, if you’ve just launched a new product or service then you should make sure to promote that as well, especially if your competitors don’t have anything fresh to give their customers – just another way to set yourself apart from your competitors.

Send out some digital Christmas cards to your customers

While you could take the opportunity to send out physical Christmas cards in the post, it’s not the done-thing these days, for multiple reasons. It’s not eco-friendly any more, due to the fact that they’re made from paper, but they’re also expensive to post, especially with the recent price increases from The Royal Mail

Instead, show your customers that you care about the environment by sending them a Christmas card in a digital format. You could even do this via email. Not only is it better for the planet, but it’s also better for your back pocket, whilst still showing your customers that you’re thinking about them at Christmas.

Do some fresh keyword research

The keyword research you did earlier in the year might well have shifted by this time, so if you’re looking to make sure that your Christmas content will jump up in the search engine results pages (SERPs) then you need to put some time and dedication into doing some fresh festive keyword research before publishing.

If you work in advance, then do some keyword research again before spending the time to research, write and publish the Christmas content you have pencilled in. There’s no point putting the time and effort in only for it to all be in vain because the keywords have slipped in popularity and search volume since the last time you checked.

Retheme your website for the Christmas season

Whether it’s something simple, like putting some flashing fairy lights on your homepage, or something more complex where you want to have a complete festive overhaul, having a Christmassy theme on your homepage, at least, will help you to stand out from your competitors at Christmas.

As well as being in-keeping with the time of year, it also shows that you have some creativity and fun behind your business head, making you look more approachable and fun-loving, as opposed to the opposite. It’s a simple-yet-effective thing you can do, so why not give it a try? Especially seeing as you’ll be able to get the same results with a few simple, temporary and seasonal changes.
