If you’re looking to establish a good reputation on social media, then you’ve come to the right place. It’s important that you’re doing this and holding your reputation as a high priority, both online and in the real world. This helps to create a loyal client base that has trust in you. But a business’ reputation doesn’t come to the general public on a plate. It’s something that needs to be earnt and worked for. Here are some things you can do to establish a solid reputation on social media:

Choose your platforms wisely

The most important thing you can do to set you off on the right track is to choose a social media platform that suits you. If you’re a creative company, then Facebook or LinkedIn might not be the right platform for you. Instead, you might opt for Instagram, TikTok or even Pinterest.

Also, you want to make sure that you’re picking a networking site with a good number of users on there. This enables your content and your posts to reach as many targeted people as possible. This is best done through things like Google Ads. But essentially, choosing the right platform for you will put you on the right track from the outset.

Respond to people as quickly as you can

Whether someone has left you a review on Google or on Facebook, you need to be making sure that you’re responding to those who have taken the time out to comment. The same rule applies in every situation, whether it’s a good or bad review, some constructive feedback or a generally lovely comment.

If someone has taken the time and effort to leave you a comment, regardless of the platform, do your best to respond to it as quickly as possible. This will help to add trust, credibility and authenticity to your brand and you as a business. If you’re inactive, prospective customers are far less likely to pick you over a competitor who is active online.

Stay active online

You need to be seen to be doing something, and that includes being active and communicating with people online if you want to establish a good reputation on social media. Social media is an excellent tool in this sense. It allows users to communicate with each other, almost in real time.

We’ve never had this capability before, on this level. Take advantage of the opportunity to be active on your social media accounts. Not only does it mean you can communicate with your followers and/or customers, but it also means that you can monitor when people aren’t happy or have some constructive criticism for you.

Produce high-quality content & make sure you proofread

In order to establish a good reputation on social media, you need to ensure that you’re producing high-quality content. That involves including accurate information when it comes to facts and statistics, as well as making sure everything is grammatically correct and that it’s free from spelling errors.

This all comes into making sure that you’re proofreading the content that you create, no matter what type of content it is or whether it’s long form or short form. Just as it’s important that you’re seen to be knowing your stuff, you also need to come across as professional. Do this by producing quality content and checking it for mistakes and inaccuracies. Often, it’s a good idea to have more than one person proofread your content, in addition to yourself.

Understand the dangers of ‘posting & forgetting’

Writing your article, posting it and sharing it is the bare minimum that you need to be doing when it comes to content creation. The hard work comes into play once again after you have done all of that. Sharing it once isn’t enough, for instance. You need to be sharing and re-sharing over and over again to get as many views as possible.

You also need to be updating and editing the articles you’ve posted, swapping out old statistics for more recent ones, for example. It’s not enough anymore to write your article, post it and abandon it. You need to be following through as well as. Keeping your information as up to date as possible is a great way of establishing a good reputation online, not just on social media.

Use good spelling & grammar

You might be wondering why it’s so important to make sure you’re using good spelling and grammar, no matter what you’re writing. From long-form content to micro-copy, it needs to be grammatically correct, as do all of your spellings. But why do you have to place such an emphasis on it? Excellent grammar enhances clarity and understanding for the reader.

It ensures that everything makes sense, no matter the subject matter. There’s a famous example of where grammar is imperative in content writing, and it involves a grandma. Take the following two phrases and see how one can be interrupted completely differently from the other, despite containing the same words:

  • Let’s eat grandma!
  • Let’s eat, grandma!

Do you notice the difference? The first phrase suggests eating grandma for dinner, whereas the other one is encouraging grandma to come to the table to eat. It’s amazing how one single comma can change the meaning of a sentence completely. This is what is meant by establishing clarity and understanding. As well as that, having good grammar and spelling throughout your content will:

  • Establish credibility
  • Reiterate professionalism
  • Enable backlinks and social sharing
  • Improve user experience
  • Enhance content quality
  • Build trust
  • Avoid miscommunication
  • Prevent misinterpretation
